How to Calculate the Value of Your Scrap Gold

The value of gold jewelry is typically based on two factors; the value of gold and the artistic value of the jewelry. These two factors combined make up the total value of a piece of gold jewelry.

When a person buys a piece of gold jewelry at a department store or a jeweler, they often pay two or three times more than the price of gold. For example, a bracelet may have $50 worth of metal, but it sells for $150. In contrast, when you sell your broken or unwanted scrap gold, you are paid only for the precious metal, not the artistic value of the jewelry. This is because the typical precious metal dealer is buying the jewelry for scrap, and it will soon be melted down in to bars of gold.

Gold is a commodity traded in the commodities markets. The price of gold is set by the supply and demand of millions of people buying a selling gold. Looking at the London PM Fix price, you can see that the price of gold is at an all time high. Back in 1976 one troy ounce of bullion sold for as little at $150.

The commodity held its value of around $400 an ounce for two decades, until at the turn of the century when gold prices started to skyrocket; up from $400 to well over $1400 an ounce in 2011. If you've been holding old or broken jewelry in the back of your jewelry box, there has never been a better time to sell.

Step 1
The first step to calculating the value of your scrap gold is to find the current value of gold. You can simply search Google for the phrase "spot gold". You'll find that Kitco offers the information you are looking for.

Step 2
You will need to sort your items based on the purity. Put your 10k in one pile, your 14k gold in another pile, and so on. You can typically find markings on the inside of rings, on the clasp of necklaces and bracelets, on the posts of earring, etc.

What do the different markings on my jewelry mean?

Real Gold - 8K, 9K, 10K, 14K, 14KP, 18K, 22K, 24K,.585,.417,.750
Plated Gold - Marked 1/20 12K GF, HGE, EP, Avon, Monet, or no markings

24k gold is pure, while all the other varieties have some percentage of non-precious metal mixed into the alloy. To calculate the purity, divide the marking by 24. For example, a bracelet marked 14k has a purity of 14/24 or 58.5%. A ring marked 10k has a purity of 10/24 or 41.7%.

Step 3
Now you know the price of gold and the purity of your jewelry. The next step is to find the weight of your jewelry. You'll want to use kitchen scale or mail scale to weigh your jewelry. You will need to convert the weight into troy ounces to calculate the value. There are 31.1 grams per troy oz and 1.1 regular ounces per troy oz. (Don't worry, there are examples at the end of this article)

Step 4
One last factor that plays a role is the percentage of the value you can actually obtain. If you were a refiner with a smelting plant and a list of customer orders for gold bars, you could sell you gold for 100% of spot value. If you are a precious metals dealer who works with refiners, you can sell your gold for about 95% of spot value. However, you as a consumer should expect to receive anywhere from 20% up to 65% of spot value.

Your local pawn shop and a few of the big name online buyers will try to pay as little as 20% of spot value. Your typical online gold buyer will usually pay 50% of spot value. Some of the better online buyers will pay as much as 65% of spot value. You definitely want to get a personal reference to get the best price!

Step 5
The last step is to do the math. Let's do some examples.

You have a 10k class ring weighing 17 grams and today's spot price is $1425 per troy oz.
$1425 * 10k/24k * 17/31.1 * 65% is $295

You have a set of 22k earrings weighing 0.1 oz on your kitchen scale and spot price is $1465 per troy oz.
$1465 * 22k/24k * 0.1/1.1 * 50% is $61

You have a 14k Herringbone necklace weighing 0.6 oz and spot price is $1385
$1385 * 14k/24k * 0.6/1.1 * 55% is $242

You have a 24k gold charm weighing 8 grams and the price of gold is $1412 per oz
$1412 * 24k/24k * 8/31.1 * 60% is $218

Choosing the Perfect Pair of Glasses

A lot of people choose thin metal-rimmed glasses, believing that they are "near invisible", in the hopes that others won't notice them. Glasses will either look sterile and functional, or they will look like a fashion accessory. With the exception of aviator-type frames, most metal-rimmed glasses look like the former. The face is your body's focal point; therefore, your image is profoundly impacted by your eyeglasses.

Two things to take into consideration when choosing glasses as a fashion accessory are your eye color and your hair color. Frames can be chosen to enhance either or both. Certain colors for eyeglass frames can make green eyes look greener and brown hair look browner.

Generally, people never think of enhancing their hair color when they are choosing eyeglass frames. Occasionally, a person with silver hair will purposely select silver frames, but beyond this, not much thought is given to this connection. People with grey hair actually tend to wear gold-rimmed glasses, which is similar to wearing silver necklace with a gold bracelet.

There are several colors that may, unsuspectingly, drain color from the eyes. Individuals with blue eyes often select frames in some shade of blue, thinking that they will intensify the color of the eyes. Most often, however, the glasses compete with the eye color and make them appear less vivid. For technical reasons, wearing frames in a contrasting color will result in the eye color being intensified. Blue-eyed people, for example, should wear glasses in the red family, such as burgundy or rust, to enhance your eye color.

Choosing Glasses to Enhance Eye Color

Green Eyes: Colors from the yellow or purple families will intensify green eyes. Bright yellow glasses could go over the top, however. Green frames can sometimes accentuate green eyes, but usually not as effectively as purple ones. Recommendations: Mauve, orchid, lavender, periwinkle, purple, violet, red-violet, eggplant, jade green, racing green, emerald green.

Blue Eyes: Pick any color in the red or orange family, as these complementary colors will enhance your blue eye color. Blue frames are a possibility, but make a comparison with red frames to make certain the blue ones do not compete with the eyes for attention. Recommendations: True red, watermelon red, cherry red, fuchsia, magenta, burgundy, coral, apricot, brick, rust, Chinese red. Tones of blue that are compatible with your wardrobe could also be tested.

Brown Eyes: Purples and greens usually make brown eyes look their loveliest. However, you have a wide variety of colors from which to choose. You can wear black frames, horn-rimmed frames or even translucent frames. In general, to make the eyes look darker, choose eyeglass frames in a pale color. Dark purples and greens always look elegant with brown eyes. Recommendations: Plum, purple, violet, lavender, racing green, jade green, horn, emerald.

Grey Eyes: In order to make the eyes appear their palest, choose eyeglass frames in a dark color. These cool, mysterious eyes are the most beautiful when they appear to be quite pale. Recommendations: Black, charcoal black, deep burgundy, midnight blue, deep purple.

Hazel Eyes: Hazel eyes, like chameleons, tend to change color. They sometimes appear green or yellow, or even varying shades of brown. In general, to make the eyes look greener, try purples, violets or greens. To bring out brown tones, try horn-rimmed glasses. To bring out the yellow or gold tones, use deep shades of purple or violet. Recommendations: Violets, red-violets, purples, plum, horn, greens, blue-greens.

Choosing Glasses to Enhance Hair Color

Blonde Hair: Eyeglass frames in a dark color will lighten blonde hair. You can try wearing dark purples for green or hazel eyes, deep burgundy for blue eyes, or dark horn for brown eyes. Recommendations: Black or a dark color that will also enhance the eye color (see preceding portion of this chapter) at the same time.

Red Hair: Choosing eyeglass frames in shades of blue, green or blue green can complement red hair. Make sure the frames harmonize with your wardrobe, as well. Purples are also quite dramatic with red hair. Recommendations: Royal blue, Chinese blue, cobalt, turquoise, emerald, jade, bottle green, lavender, violet, purple.

Black Hair: Choose colors from the red-family to accent the natural blue undertones of true black hair. To make the hair appear darker, choose frames in a pale color, including pewter and various shades of white. Recommendations: Burgundy, black, red, fuchsia, white, greens, purples, blues.

Brown Hair: Shades of brown can range from mousy brown to deep chestnut. To make the hair appear darker, choose frames in a pale color that enhances your eyes (see above). To make the hair appear lighter, choose dark colors that enhance the eye color. Red tones will be enhance by blues or greens.

Grey Hair: Endless shades of "grey hair" exist, from partially grey to silver grey. The moment hair becomes noticeably grey, it is important to avoid brown or yellow frames. This includes gold, horn and mock tortoise shell, since these colors will dull the grey tones in the hair. Silver frames call attention to grey hair, particularly when the hair is only partially grey. Silver-grey hair will look more platinum and less grey with dark colors such as black, navy or midnight blue. Light colored frames can make previously dark hair, which is lighter due to greying, look darker.

How To Get Over Him - Quickly

Let me make one thing clear: this has nothing to do with love.

I'm no expert. The very word makes me nauseous and sets my body to a defensive mode. But I have had my heart broken once or twice. Badly. By some pathetic loser by the way who, in my blissful juvenile ignorance, contained my whole world: my oxygen, my insides, my reason for being without whom I'd wither and die to nothingness blah, blah.

Somebody should have whacked me across the head with a Dr. Phil self-help bestseller in hard cover - it may have been enough to cause selective amnesia. But no, I have had to endure many, many self-inflicted humiliations the magnitude of which almost surpasses George W. Bush's abundant stream of faux pas, which I suspect include nuking someone's ticker.

With no access to a warhead, however, to deploy my heart's retribution, I resorted to good old fashioned emotional meltdown that rivaled Chernobyl. Not only have I said and done it all in the name of witless love - things I loathe to enumerate lest the wrath of Virginia Woolf strikes me dead - I have listened excruciatingly to my girlfriends and their hearts' lament on losing Mr. Loser, er, Mr. Right. And the twisted plot to get him back.

What I bemoan most of all is that not one good sista gave it to me straight. That I will change.

So, if a looming break-up is coming your way (trust me, we can all see it coming!), read, learn and gain wisdom from the mistakes of others because you don't want to make them all!

For the ladies who have been-there-done-that and, hopefully, out of the singles jungle, enjoying the safety and comfort of Tarzan's little love-nest high up on the treetops, be a real friend and show the girls how it's done.

Delete, delete, delete ... all traces of your ex.

If your memory is better than mine, there are two phone numbers you know by heart: your mum's and your ex's. In your quest to "get over him", first, delete him from your digital memory store starting with your mobile phone. Erase his mobile number, work phone, home phone, his best friend's number, his mother's number - especially!

If you're an IM user, block him immediately and blacklist his email address from your mailbox.

Then remove every piece of clothing, toiletry and dirty underwear he left behind in your bathroom. And no, don't even think of washing and neatly packaging these into a bundle for him. The concierge has closed and will not be re-opening. Ever.

Whatever you do, DO NOT call him.

It's pathetic, really. What are you hoping to accomplish? No, you won't get him back because he's not coming back. The bottom line is if he dumped you, he's not into you. Sound familiar? The word on the street is true and there's absolutely nothing you can do about it.

OK, so there are those lucky people that get back together and live happily ever after.

If you're living in the same world as I, you know it's the exception, not the rule. Sadly, most women seem to think, to their detriment, that their situation is somehow always an exception: as if they live in a parallel reality where the rules of engagement do not apply because for some unknown and far-imagined reason, many are under the illusion that they're immune to life's cruel veracity. Well, you're not. The rule of life rules, unless the odd exception, freak-of-nature type event occurs. And it rarely happens. The sooner you realise that, the better.

So, in your moment of pathetic weakness, it's completely understandable and even acceptable to max out your credit card for much needed retail therapy. Even indulge in uncharacteristically obscene behaviour including binge-drinking, a drunken pash or two with complete strangers, or hysterical emotional outbursts in embarrassingly crowded places. Just make sure you're in the company of people who give a damn about you - your friends.

Scream. Cry. Laugh. Do whatever it takes to flush him out of your system. But for goodness' sake, do not call your ex.

Should I return the gold watch he gave me?
Are you kidding me? It's yours. Keep it. Or better yet, take all the valuable items he's ever given you to cash converters - the gold necklace for your birthday, the beautiful pair of earrings last Christmas and that gorgeous bracelet for Valentine's Day. Then buy yourself a new pair of Jimmy Choos. It will elevate your height as well as your mood.

Turning his precious little gifts, which are rightfully yours, into cold hard cash will satisfy a scorned woman's desire for sweet revenge. Albeit briefly. But who cares? Right now, little victories are what you need to get you over the line. And over him.

Let's be friends? Yeah, right!
Oh, please! If you are insisting on remaining friends with an ex who dumped you like vomit, you're up o something and it won't do you any good.

Problem is, you can't see it. So let me make it clearer for you: he's not coming back.

Wake up and smell the stench. You're standing on a gigantic pile of horseshit collected over the years starting from the time you believed in the myth of Cinderella. Didn't you know? She divorced her prince two months later: they weren't compatible after all.

So, think long and hard about your real motivations. Life is good but it ain't a fairytale.

If he's the one wanting to remain friends, well, beware. Remember, he dumped you. So it's neither an invitation for renewed romance nor for any kind of "real" friendship you want or need right now.

Let me tell you a little secret. Most guys, unfortunately, are cowards. They are scared to death of hurting our feelings because we all go "emotional on them!. They will do anything to weasel their way out of very difficult situations. The fact is, if he wants you, and I mean want-you-so-badly-it-hurts, there are no mixed messages. He will move heaven and earth to be with you. If he's not in to you, the only thing he'll move is his thumb: "want 2 come over 2nite?"

Need I say more?

Get a life ... darn good one!
The sweetest revenge is to live a happy life. And it's the only way to live.

But first, change your sheets.

Call your friends. Dance around the house in your underwear or naked if you prefer. Attend a party. Drink good champagne. Wear amazingly red lipstick. Strut around in ridiculously high stilettos. Visit your hairdresser.

Smile.

Chat up a good looking guy at a funky bar. Wear perfume. Flirt. Play games and play it cool. This time, you're the predator, not the prey. Take a risk.

You're so sexy. Who wouldn't want you?

And if you're still weary of rejoining the singles jungle, here's a tip: run an ad for a male flatmate. You may be surprised at what you'll find. Tarzan might just come knocking at your door.

Live life. It's the only one you've got.

"The magic behind every outstanding performance is always found in the smallest of details."

If you long to accomplish great and noble tasks, you first must learn to approach every task as though it were great and noble. Even the biggest project depends on the success of the smallest components.

Many people downplay small details, dismissing them as minutia-the "small stuff," that we're encouraged to ignore. But, in fact, our whole environment is simply an accumulation of tiny details.

Although we measure our lives in years, we live them in days, hours, minutes and seconds. Every action-every detail of our lives--has bottom-line repercussions, and it's dangerous and derogatory to think of any of those details as trivial, unimportant or inconsequential.

Successful people, in many walks of life, understand the importance of detail:

· Crime scene investigators know that it's often the smallest, most obscure detail that results in the arrest and prosecution of criminals.

· Athletes and coaches are all too aware that one minor misjudgment can swing momentum to their competitor and result in a loss rather than a win.

· Doctors and nurses understand that the slightest mistake or loss of focus can result in a tragic situation that carries massive liability.

· Business people carefully oversee the details of their products and services, knowing that one simple slip up can cause a series of events that negatively impacts the bottom line, brand integrity, and public perception.

· Engineers and architects know that the stability of the most gigantic structure depends on the integrity of its smallest element; a failed bolt or a misplaced pin can have huge consequences.

· Fireman, first aid responders, and other emergency personnel are trained to focus on details even as a tragedy unfolds, as every second can make the difference between life and death in an emergency situation.

Breitling Watches - How to Spot a Fake (Part Two)

Let's take keep a specific watch in mind as we assess the best ways to verify its authenticity. The Breitling Bentley 6.75 is one of the most often replicated watches on the market. It is an enormous watch, weighing almost a pound, and 49mm in diameter- a lot of fakes will have a heavy head, but the 'stainless steel' bands will feel light in comparison. The real watch is heavy all over.

The main thing to look for in a replica Breitling Bentley (Breitling Bentley 6.75 A4436212.G573.970A) is the logo- most replicas will have the logo simply printed on the face, whereas the real thing has it embossed into the dial. The applied wings logo is too thin on the fakes, fragile-looking, with too much white space. Also, cheap fakes tend to have at least a little bit of smearing on the logo or writing on the face of the watch. This is pretty easy to spot if you have a magnifying glass. Checking the logo is the easiest and most effective way to catch counterfeits.

Don't forget to check the back engravings for misspellings- all the writing is in Swiss-French and may be hard for you to verify, but you can find pictures online and check letter for letter.

On the back side of the links in the band, there should be a clear manufacturer's marking, and the strap should have the model number. If the watch lacks these marks, it's definitely fake. Also, the steel used in the fakes, for obvious cost-cutting reasons, is usually cheaper-looking than the steel used for real Breitlings. Plus, the nine o'clock subdial in fakes shows the days of the week instead of the date, and the font is often wrong when compared to the real thing.

Keep a look out for raised subdials- they're supposed to be flat and flush with the face, not raised or domed. Also, another great test is to hold the watch head and try to move the bracelet strap from side to side- a fake Breitling will move, the real thing will hold firm. And keep your eye on the strap itself- the screws and patterns should be well-made and smooth, and the joints should be flush, not raised or rounded.

A final test is the bezel- the circlet around the face of the watch that rotates. On the Breitling Bentley, it is, again, very sturdy and difficult to move. If the bezel spins effortlessly, you're holding a fake Bentley 6.75. Overall, just keep in mind what a precise, large, masculine watch the Breitling Bentley 6.75 really is, and don't be deceived into buying something that is messy or too delicate.

A pirate's wedding can be loads of fun and can incorporate some unique ideas straight out of your imagination. The first thing is to decide where you would like your pirate wedding to be held. A sandy beach, or an elegant home transformed to resemble a pirate's hideout? Perhaps you might be interested in contacting a Hollywood producer about using an old pirate ship from a movie set. You make the decision after all this day is one you have dreamed of all your life. Lights! Camera! Action!

After you have decided on a unique spot for your wedding it's time to bring all the little details that make up a wedding to life. Let's start with some obvious ones like wedding attire.

Since you have decided to become a pirate's bride it's now up to you to dress the part. You might first look at gowns from the pirate's era as a starting point. Well heeled brides wore elaborate gowns that often included a corset or lacing and were patterned from silk or damask with puffy sleeves edged with lace on both cuffs and bodice. You might go back and take a look at the stunning gown Princess Diana wore at her wedding to get a good idea of this particular style. Also the color is entirely up to you. Dress your bridesmaids in a plainer version and add the corset for effect.

Dressing the groom can be alot of fun using the pirate theme. Pirates dressed in bold colors like crimson red or royal purple breeches and muslin shirts enhanced by puffy sleeves and cuffed with dripping lace. Next go for a black belt embellished with a huge gold buckle and knee high black boots for effect. Follow this flamboyant style with a black, tricorn hat adorned with an electrifying red or purple feather and have the groom wear a gold hoop earring and gold necklaces. Last but not least, you might add a black eye patch for a dazzling finish. Have your groomsmen dress as lesser pirates in more somber attire, after all, the groom is the star.

If you really want pirate style, send out invitations made up to look like ransom notes or treasure maps inviting your guests to appear at your wedding. You might also request them to dress in old world attire if they choose.

Now that we've dressed you and your groom and sent out invitations, it's time to dress up your wedding feast. Offer your guests pewter plates and cups and let them choose from an assortment of foods that include lobsters, coconut shrimp, fresh salads, tropical fruit, roast chicken and baked bread washed down with an assortment of champagnes, liquers, whiskey and sodas.

After the feast,you might wish to start your honeymoon in the captain's cabin complete with port hole so you can look out at the stars.

Line Dance Instructions - What Clothes Do Line Dancers Wear?

There are as many different styles of clothing worn for line dancing as there are people who line dance.

When you're watching a movie on TV and they show some people line dancing, usually in some little cafe in the back of beyond, the women are usually wearing tight jeans, a belt, and a very fitted shirt with the buttons open half way down the front! The men will be dressed about the same, with their shirts buttoned all the way to their neck, and sometimes one of those little string ties, and almost always they will be wearing a hat, even indoors. Of course, they will all be wearing those nice, big heavy boots that they put on that morning to do their chores.

In Hawaii, the women who came to the classes where I took line dance instructions wore very short, twirly skirts, crop tops or fitted fancy t-shirts, tights or panty hose, and line dance boots, which are much lighter than regular boots and have a smooth sole so you don't stick to the dance floor. They almost always decorated their boots with a "boot bracelet", on one boot only, which sparkled when they danced.

The men, as a rule, dressed much the same as the men in the movies. The "George Strait" look was very popular. Actually, so was the "Collin Raye" look, and one of our dancers actually won a Collin Raye look-alike contest.

Of course, being in Hawaii, you would have people show up for class in shorts, tank tops, and "rubber slippers." They would soon discover that this just did not work for line dancing. Sometimes, they would just abandon their rubber slippers and try to dance barefooted, which was a little bit better, but they had to be careful for splinters in the wood floor. It made doing the line dance steps a bit awkward. Most of them, if they returned for another class, would at least bring the proper boots!

Sometimes I would wear a long, flowing skirt because I liked to dance "Waltz Across Texas" to Collin Raye's "Dreamin' My Dreams of You" and I loved the way the skirt swirled when I twirled!

When the dance team performed in public, in the shopping malls, the parks at events or even PowWows, or at the resorts for the tourists, they had costumes they wore. The blouses of the women and the shirts of the men would all be the same. The women would add short skirts, tights, and boots to their "look" and the men would all wear jeans and big belts, boots, and hats. They all looked just great and very professional. A lot of times when they performed, they would have to pack a foldable wooden floor with them because it was impossible to dance on grass or asphalt parking lots. They even took a large flatbed truck to a shopping mall and danced above the crowd and then invited people up for line dance instructions. It was always a lot of good, clean fun!

No matter what they wore, everyone always had a good time and, if the event was in the parking lot of a shopping center, we all would go to Baskin Robbins afterward for some ice cream!
